PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
August 2020– Subject Expert Teacher. BASIS Independent Brooklyn.
Present Teach 5th and 6th grade English and Creative Writing. I teach over 100
students using heavily scaffolded assignments that allow students to
practice analytical writing, poetry, memoir and fiction all connected
thematically or structurally to the novels we are studying. I foster analytical
discussions and explorations of key elements of story through whole class
and group work, as well as visual and auditory interpretations. Grammar
concepts are integrated into all lessons, allowing students' understanding to
grow organically with their own relationship to language. Additionally, I
tutor students biweekly and maintain regular dialogue with parents.
Through the entire pandemic I have taught remotely, in the hybrid model
and in-person. Proficient in Schoology, Teams, Blackboard and Zoom
among others.
September 2019– Instructor and Mentor. Gotham Writers Workshop.
Present Teach eager new writers Creative Writing 101, tailor existing curriculum to differentiate instruction based on students interests and experience level. Work one-on-one with writers to workshop their writing and hone their voice and skills.
August 2018– Adjunct Professor. Medgar Evers College, CUNY.
August 2020 Teach College Composition I and II. Participate in internal professional development. Develop original syllabi and lesson plans tailored to each course.
November 2002– Freelance Writer.
Present Published a novel North Haven with Little A in 2017. Contributes to blogs A Child Grows in Brooklyn and What to Expect. Mentors emerging writers through a monthly workshop. Writes press releases for W. W. Norton and Company.

July 2018 Taught 4th grade Humanities, and 5th and 6th grade English classes. Composed original syllabi based on established learning objectives. Created lesson plans using the exploration of novels to further students’ understanding of key literary, cultural, and historical concepts. Created heavily scaffolded writing assignments to improve students’ critical thinking skills, while allowing for differeniated instruction. Created and implemented a range of active grammar and vocabulary games to maximize retention for all learners. Additionally, tutored students biweekly and maintained regular dialogue with parents. Wrote weekly newsletters and constructed monthly visual displays.
September 2015– Interim English Teacher. Saint Ann’s School.
August 2016 Taught 7th and 8th grade English classes focusing on critical thinking through literary analysis and expository and creative writing assignments. Composed original syllabi and lesson plans. Wrote biannual, individual reports on each student, and gave students additional support during study halls. Also taught an eight-week beginning fiction workshop for adults as part of Saint Ann’s Second Course series.
Februray 2014– Managing Editor. A Child Grows in Brooklyn.
September 2015 Established and maintain an editorial calendar; manage over 20 contributors; generate daily post topics; edit all contributions for style, content and SEO; find compelling, unique images; develop tri-weekly newletters; and promote all posts across major social media platforms.
September 2013– Head Writer. A Child Grows in Brooklyn.
September 2015 Develop and wrote deadline-driven, daily content for largest parenting blog in Brooklyn with over 50,000 unique vistors a month. Topics ranged from evergreen to trending issues in the parenting, Brooklyn and national spheres. Wrote engaging headlines, and SEO all posts.
August 2007– Adjunct Professor and Tutor. The College of Staten Island, CUNY. Taught
December 2012 composition, reading and literature courses, from Developmental Reading to College Writing to Women and Literature. Developed original syllabi and lesson plans. Compiled readers tailored to each course. Tutored students one-on-one in the college’s writing center.
August 2005– Assistant Fiction Editor. Lost Magazine.
November 2007 Selected fiction submissions for the Guest Fiction Editor’s consideration, corresponded with authors, and edited occasional nonfiction pieces for
Editor-in-Chief. Served as Fiction Editor for two themed issues, “Lost at Sea” and “Lost in Space.”
June 2003– Editorial Assistant. W. W. Norton and Company.
July 2004 Assisted two busy editors with more than thirty books a season, drafted contracts, assisted authors with all aspects of production from permissions to copy editing. Wrote catalog and flap copy, and read and responded to submissions.
November 2002– Publicity Assistant. Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
June 2003 A liaison between publicists and media outlets, fulfilled review copy requests daily, compiled all relevant media clips weekly, and was responsible for all departmental billing and administrative duties.
